About Reconstruction Tourism
The idea of “Reconstruction Tourism” is to provide various opportunities* for visitors to think about the disaster-affected areas’ reconstructions, by actually visiting these areas and doing some activities. The goal of the tourism is:
-to have the visitors learn about the disaster and disaster prevention.
-to have the visitors learn about the current situation of the affected areas, and to stimulate them to convey what they learned at the sites to others.
-to allow areas to receive the economic benefit of visitors.
*Examples of the opportunities:
- Visiting affected sites guided by a “Kataribe” (story-teller), or visiting exhibition halls related to the earthquake.
- Shopping at the Shopping streets for recovery, or using restaurants or hotels close to the affected areas.
- Visiting tourist spots or facilities that are around the affected areas, which have already resumed operations.
